Trådresistorn

Trådresistorn is a type of electrical resistor that uses a length of resistive wire, often wound around a ceramic core, to provide resistance. This design allows for higher power dissipation compared to some other resistor types, making them suitable for applications where significant heat is generated. The resistance value is determined by the material of the wire, its length, and its cross-sectional area, as well as the specific resistivity of the material used. Common wire materials include nichrome, a nickel-chromium alloy, or manganin, an alloy of copper, manganese, and nickel, chosen for their stable resistance over a range of temperatures.

Trådresistors are often used in power supply circuits, motor control, and in educational settings for demonstrating basic electrical principles. Their construction makes them relatively robust and capable of withstanding high temperatures. The wire is typically insulated to prevent short circuits. While offering good power handling, they can have less precise resistance values compared to some film resistors and may exhibit inductance due to the coiled wire, which can be a consideration in high-frequency applications. Variations exist, such as wirewound power resistors, which are specifically designed for high power loads.
