Trådbakdrag

Trådbakdrag is a type of cable-controlled railway tractor used in Sweden, particularly in the mountainous regions. The term "trådbakdrag" can be broken down into its Swedish components: "tråd," meaning wire or cord, and "bakdrag," meaning backward pull or rear drag.

Early forms of trådbakdrag date back to the early 20th century, when they were used for tending to railway lines in rugged terrain where manual labor would be impractical. These early devices consisted of a cable running along the track, which was connected to a small locomotive-like vehicle. The passenger or crew member would control the speed and direction of the locomotive by adjusting the tension on the cable.

Trådbakdrag were a crucial tool for railway maintenance in mountainous parts of Sweden, particularly during winter when harsh weather conditions made manual labor nearly impossible. The system allowed workers to travel along the railway line and perform tasks such as snow removal, track repair, and inspection.

Over time, trådbakdrag underwent improvements and evolved into more sophisticated systems. Some models were equipped with winches, cranes, and even driverless navigation systems.
