Leon Trotsky, born Lev Davidovich Bronstein, was a prominent Russian revolutionary, politician, and theorist. Born in January 1879 in Janovka, Ukraine, Trotsky joined the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (RSDLP) in 1903, and later became a leading figure in the Bolshevik faction. He played a crucial role in the October Revolution of 1917, which led to the establishment of the Soviet Union. After the revolution, Trotsky served as the People's Commissar for War and later as the People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs.
