Trockenbau

Trockenbau, also known as drywall construction, is a method of constructing interior walls and ceilings using lightweight, prefabricated panels made from gypsum plaster bonded to a paper or fiberglass backing. This technique is widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial building projects due to its efficiency, versatility, and cost-effectiveness.

The process begins with the installation of a metal or wooden frame, typically consisting of studs and tracks, which provides structural support. Gypsum panels are then attached to this frame using screws or adhesive, ensuring proper alignment and coverage. The edges of the panels are usually taped with joint tape and filled with joint compound, creating a smooth surface ready for painting or wallpaper application.

Trockenbau offers several advantages over traditional wet plastering methods. It reduces construction time and labor costs, minimizes material waste, and eliminates the need for water-based finishing materials. Additionally, it provides excellent sound insulation and fire resistance, making it a preferred choice for modern building standards. The panels are also easy to repair or replace if damaged, enhancing their practicality.

In recent years, Trockenbau has expanded to include advanced materials such as moisture-resistant gypsum boards and composite panels, which cater to specific environmental conditions like humidity or temperature fluctuations. These innovations have further broadened the application of Trockenbau in various construction sectors, including renovations, new builds, and specialized environments like hospitals or data centers.
