Trikala

Trikala is a city in central Greece, the capital of the regional unit of Trikala in the Thessaly region. It lies in the Thessalian Plain on the banks of the Pinios River, at a crossroads of historic routes in western Thessaly. The city is the seat of the municipality of Trikala, which forms part of the Thessaly regional unit, and serves as a regional administrative, commercial, and cultural hub.

The area has ancient roots associated with the Thessalian city of Trikke. Through antiquity, the region was part of successive Greek, Roman, and Byzantine polities, and later came under Ottoman rule.
