Trigun

Trigun is a Japanese manga series created by Yasuhiro Nightow. Set on the harsh desert planet Gunsmoke, it follows Vash the Stampede, a notorious gunman with a 60 billion double-dollar bounty who travels with a pacifist code, striving to avoid killing. Over his journeys he is pursued by bounty hunters while seeking to protect civilians. He is frequently aided by insurance agents Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, and by the enigmatic priest Nicholas D. Wolfwood.

The original Trigun manga was serialized from 1995 to 1997 in Kadokawa Shoten's Shonen Captain and collected in two volumes. A later continuation, Trigun Maximum, ran from 1998 to 2007 in Young King OURs, expanding the world and providing a darker, more action-focused arc that continues to explore Vash's past and his relationship with his brother Millions Knives.

Trigun blends Western motifs with space opera and philosophical themes, notably pacifism, morality, and the consequences of violence. Its balance of humor, action, and tragedy contributed to its broad appeal.

An anime adaptation by Madhouse aired in 1998, consisting of 26 episodes, followed by the feature film Trigun: Badlands Rumble in 2010. A new anime adaptation, Trigun Stampede, produced by Studio Orange, premiered in 2023, offering a modern retelling with updated visuals.

Trigun has had a lasting influence on anime and manga, cited for its distinctive tone, world-building, and character dynamics that blend genre conventions with reflective storytelling.
