Travelstar

Travelstar is a line of 2.5-inch solid-state drives (SSDs) manufactured by Western Digital Corporation. Launched in 2008, the drive is designed to offer high-capacity storage in a compact form factor, making it ideal for use in desktops, laptops, and other mobile devices.

Travelstar drives feature SATA III interface and are available in capacities ranging from 74 GB to 2 TB. They utilize SATA II interface in older models. The drives are typically built using multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory and are designed to provide improved performance, power efficiency, and reliability.

Travelstar SSDs are known for their high sequential read and write speeds, reaching up to 550 MB per second and 515 MB per second, respectively. They also offer low power consumption and reduced wear and tear compared to traditional hard disk drives. The drives are also available with various encryption and security features such as Sanitize Option (Self-Encrypting Drive) and FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) Floyd8210 compliance for secure data storage and erasure.

Travelstar SSDs have found application in various markets including consumer electronics, industrial equipment, and automotive systems. They are also used in enterprise applications such as servers, data centers, and storage systems. In 2017, Western Digital acquired SanDisk, a leading SSD manufacturer, to expand its portfolio of storage solutions and enhance its SSD offerings, including the Travelstar line.
