Traumaperäisiä

The word combines trauma, a borrowed term referring to a distressing event, with peräisiä, indicating origin. In clinical and research contexts, traumaperäisiä signals a link between an individual’s current presentation and past trauma, without necessarily implying that trauma is the sole cause.

The term is widely used in psychology, psychiatry, social work, and trauma-informed care. It can modify nouns such as oireet (symptoms), reaktiot (reactions), or syyt (causes), for example traumaperäisiä oireita or traumaperäisiä syitä. Common areas include anxiety, hypervigilance, intrusive memories, nightmares, dissociation, and other responses that are understood to be related to trauma exposure. Traumaperäisiä presentations may occur in various disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma- and stressor-related conditions, but individuals may show traumaperäisiä oireita without meeting formal criteria for a specific diagnosis.
