Transversaalimomentin

Transversaalimomentin, also known as the polar moment of inertia or second polar moment of area, is a mathematical property of a two-dimensional shape that quantricifies how its area is distributed around a specific point, typically the origin. It is a crucial concept in engineering, particularly in the field of mechanics of materials, when analyzing the torsional behavior of shafts and beams.

Mathematically, for a planar area A, the transversaalimomentin J with respect to the origin (0,0) is defined as the integral of the square of the radial distance r from the origin to each infinitesimal area element dA over the entire area. This can be expressed as J = ∫∫_A r² dA. Since r² = x² + y², where x and y are the Cartesian coordinates, the transversaalimomentin can also be calculated as the sum of the area moment of inertia about the x-axis (I_x) and the area moment of inertia about the y-axis (I_y): J = I_x + I_y.
