Transporditõend

Transporditõend, meaning "transport ticket" in Estonian, refers to a document that validates a person's right to travel on public transport. In Estonia, this typically takes the form of an electronic ticket, often associated with a personalized ID card or a separate public transport card. When a passenger boards a bus, tram, trolleybus, or train, they must validate their transporditõend. This process ensures that passengers have paid for their journey or are eligible for free travel.

The validation process usually involves tapping the card or ID card on a designated validator machine located on the vehicle. The validator records the journey, confirming that the passenger has a valid ticket. This system helps public transport authorities manage passenger flow, collect data on travel patterns, and prevent fare evasion. Different municipalities may have slightly varied systems and ticketing rules, but the core concept of the transporditõend remains consistent across Estonia's public transport network. Lost or invalid transporditõend can result in fines. Children and certain eligible groups, such as seniors or individuals with disabilities, may have free or discounted transport rights, which are also recorded and validated through their transporditõend.
