Transkódolás

Transkódolás, often translated as transcoding, is the process of converting a digital file from one format to another. This typically involves changing the encoding of the data, such as audio or video codecs, or altering the container format. For example, a video file encoded with the H.264 codec in an MP4 container could be transcoded to the VP9 codec in a WebM container.

The primary reasons for transcoding include ensuring compatibility across different devices and platforms, optimizing file size for storage or transmission, and adapting content for specific playback environments. Devices may not support all file formats or codecs, making transcoding essential for playback. Furthermore, reducing file size through transcoding can save bandwidth during streaming or reduce storage requirements.

Transcoding can also involve adjusting parameters like resolution, frame rate, or bitrate. For instance, a high-resolution video might be transcoded to a lower resolution for mobile devices or for adaptive bitrate streaming, which adjusts video quality based on network conditions. This process is fundamental in various digital media workflows, including video editing, content distribution, and digital asset management.
