Transesterifikaiosiirtymä refers to the process of transesterification, a chemical reaction that involves the exchange of an organic group (an alkyl or aryl group) from an ester with an alcohol. This reaction is commonly employed in the production of biodiesel from vegetable oils or animal fats. In this context, the triglyceride (fat) reacts with an alcohol, typically methanol or ethanol, in the presence of a catalyst (acidic or basic) to yield fatty acid alkyl esters and glycerol. The fatty acid alkyl esters are the biodiesel component, while glycerol is a byproduct.
