Transdanubian

Transdanubian refers to the geographic region located west of the Danube River in Hungary, encompassing the western part of the country. The term derives from the Latin "trans" meaning "beyond" or "across," indicating the area situated beyond the Danube when viewed from Budapest toward the west.

This region constitutes approximately one-third of Hungary's total territory and includes several important historical and cultural areas. The Transdanubian region is characterized by diverse landscapes, ranging from the rolling hills of the Bakony and Vértes mountains to the fertile plains of the Danube valley. The area also features several important natural attractions, including Lake Balaton, Hungary's largest lake, which serves as a major recreational destination.

Economically, Transdanubia contributes significantly to Hungary's agricultural output and industrial production. The region has experienced steady development in recent decades, with improved infrastructure connecting it to Budapest and other major centers.
