Tractionhissar

Tractionhissar, a Swedish term that translates to "traction elevators," refers to a specific type of elevator system that uses a motor and a sheave to move the car via ropes. Unlike hydraulic elevators which rely on fluid pressure, traction elevators employ a counterweight system. This counterweight is roughly equal in mass to the elevator car plus approximately 40-50% of its rated load.

The primary components of a traction elevator system include the motor, the sheave, the ropes, the car, and the counterweight. The motor drives the sheave, a grooved pulley. The steel ropes are threaded over this sheave, with one end attached to the elevator car and the other to the counterweight. When the motor turns the sheave in one direction, the ropes move, raising or lowering the car. The counterweight helps to reduce the load on the motor, making the system more energy-efficient and allowing for higher speeds and greater travel distances.

Traction elevators are generally faster and more efficient for taller buildings compared to hydraulic elevators. They are widely used in modern commercial and residential buildings. There are two main types of traction elevators: geared and gearless. Geared traction elevators use a gearbox between the motor and the sheave, allowing a smaller, faster motor to drive a larger, slower sheave. Gearless traction elevators have the motor directly connected to the sheave, offering greater efficiency and smoother operation, particularly for high-speed applications.
