Torsionsaxel

A torsionsaxel, also known as a torsion bar suspension, is a type of automotive suspension system. It utilizes a spring steel bar that is anchored at one end to the vehicle's frame and at the other end to a suspension arm. When the wheel encounters a bump or depression, the suspension arm pivots, causing the torsion bar to twist. This twisting action acts as the spring, absorbing the shock and returning the suspension to its original position.

The primary advantage of a torsionsaxel system is its compact design, which can save space compared to coil springs. This is particularly beneficial in vehicles where underbody clearance is a concern. Additionally, torsion bars can be easily adjusted to fine-tune the vehicle's ride height and stiffness. They are generally considered durable and require minimal maintenance.

However, torsion bar suspensions can have some drawbacks. The twisting motion can sometimes lead to less refined ride quality compared to other suspension types, particularly over uneven surfaces. Repair or replacement of a torsion bar can also be more complex than with coil springs. Furthermore, the effective length of the torsion bar can be limited by the available space within the vehicle's chassis.

Torsionsaxel systems have been used in a variety of vehicles, including many trucks, buses, and some passenger cars, particularly in older models and in certain performance applications where space saving and adjustability are prioritized.
