Tornadodiagramok

Tornadodiagramok, also known as tornado charts, are a type of data visualization used in project management and business analysis to illustrate the sensitivity of a specific output or key performance indicator (KPI) to changes in various input variables. They are particularly useful in scenario planning and risk assessment.

The chart gets its name from its distinctive shape, resembling an inverted tornado. The widest part of the chart, at the center, represents the variable that has the greatest impact on the output. Variables with progressively smaller impacts are shown on either side, with the narrowest ends of the chart representing the least influential inputs. Typically, the chart displays a range of possible outcomes for each input variable, often including a base case, a best-case scenario, and a worst-case scenario.

Tornadodiagramok are constructed by calculating the output under different assumptions for each input variable, while holding all other variables constant. The differences in the output from the base case are then plotted for each input. This allows stakeholders to quickly identify which variables are the most critical to monitor and manage to achieve a desired outcome. They are frequently employed in financial modeling, project budgeting, and forecasting to understand potential risks and opportunities.
