Compliance is a central consideration, encompassing KYC/AML requirements, investor protection rules, and ongoing disclosures. In the European Union, MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) outlines obligations for crypto-asset issuers and service providers, with similar regulatory themes appearing in other jurisdictions.

Lifecycle and governance follow issuance. After private or public sales, tokens may be listed on exchanges or used within a platform, with continued obligations such as reporting, treasury management, and governance arrangements. Risks for token issuers include regulatory uncertainty, market volatility, technical vulnerabilities in smart contracts, and reputational concerns.
