Tohutule

Tohutule is a term that refers to a specific type of traditional Fijian barkcloth. This material is crafted from the inner bark of the wau tree, a species indigenous to Fiji. The process of creating tohutule involves carefully stripping the bark, soaking it, and then beating it until it becomes thin and pliable. These beaten strips are then joined together to form larger pieces.

Historically, tohutule held significant cultural importance in Fiji. It was used for a variety of purposes, including clothing, ceremonial mats, and as a form of currency.
