Togliatti

Togliatti is a city located in Samara Oblast, Russia, situated on the left bank of the Volga River. It is named after the Italian communist leader Palmiro Togliatti. The city's establishment is closely linked to the development of the automotive industry in the Soviet Union.

The city was founded in 1950, although the area has a longer history of settlement. Its modern development began with the construction of the Volga Automobile Plant (VAZ), which became one of the largest car manufacturers in the Soviet Union and later Russia. The plant's products, particularly the Lada brand, are widely recognized.
