Tingler

The Tingler is a fictional parasitic creature featured in the 1959 horror film of the same name, directed by William Castle. The film depicts the Tingler as a large, worm-like organism that attaches itself to the spine of a human being and feeds on their fear. It is said to emerge when a person experiences extreme terror, growing larger and more dangerous with increasing fear.

In the movie's narrative, a scientist named Dr. Warren Chapin discovers the Tingler and attempts to find a way to eradicate it. His research suggests that the creature is repelled by laughter and that humans can defeat it by overcoming their fear. The climax of the film involves Dr. Chapin attempting to trigger mass fear in a movie theater audience, which then allows him to confront and ultimately destroy the Tinglers. The creature itself is portrayed through a combination of practical effects and, notably, the use of "Percepto," a vibrator-like device installed in theater seats designed to simulate the Tingler crawling on the audience members. The Tingler is a symbolic representation of primal fear and its physical manifestations.
