Timebending refers to a speculative concept within science fiction and theoretical physics that describes the manipulation or alteration of the flow of time. This can manifest in various ways, such as speeding up, slowing down, reversing, or even creating temporal loops. The idea is often explored in narrative fiction to create intriguing plot devices and examine the philosophical implications of time travel.

In theoretical physics, while time travel into the past remains largely hypothetical and fraught with paradoxes, concepts like time dilation, a proven consequence of Einstein's theory of relativity, suggest that time can indeed pass at different rates for observers in different frames of reference. Time dilation occurs at speeds approaching the speed of light or in strong gravitational fields. However, this is not typically considered "timebending" in the fictional sense of active manipulation.

The term "timebending" itself is more commonly associated with fictional narratives. Stories might feature characters or technologies with the ability to bend, warp, or stretch time locally, affecting only a specific area or a limited duration. This can lead to scenarios where characters experience time differently, perceive events out of sequence, or interact with different temporal states.
