Tiliaceus

Tiliaceus is a species of flowering plant in the mallow family, Malvaceae, native to coastal regions of the Indo-Pacific. It is a variable species, often found as a shrub or small tree, typically growing up to 10 meters (33 feet) tall. The leaves are heart-shaped, serrated, and arranged alternately on the stem. Flowers are borne in clusters and are typically yellow, though they can sometimes be pale pink or white. The fruit is a woody capsule.

The plant is widely distributed along coastlines, from East Africa and Madagascar across to Southeast Asia, Australia, and numerous Pacific Islands. It thrives in sandy soils and is often found in dune systems, mangrove fringes, and along rocky shores. Its tolerance to salt spray and sandy conditions makes it a common feature of coastal vegetation.

Tiliaceus has a long history of traditional uses in many regions. The bark has been used for its fiber, which can be made into ropes and textiles.
