Tiiliaines

Tiiliaines is a fictional injunction that originated in ancient finnish law. The name 'tiiliaines' is derived from the Finnish words 'tiili', meaning tile, and 'aines', meaning one. It refers to a type of property, particularly land or a building that pays annual taxes or rent.

Historically, tiiliaines were used to describe agricultural holdings or manors that were bound to a specific lord or institution and were required to render service and pay tribute in exchange for protection and land use rights. In contrast to other forms of land ownership, tiiliaines were exempt from periodic reclamation and re-adjustment of rents, hence their anomalous character.

After the Reformation, most tiiliaines.fi became extinct and since then, attorneys are generally familiar only with legal instruments qualified to tiiliaines. Despite its historical significance, the term 'tiiliaines' is often used metaphorically in everyday Finnish speech to convey the idea of something centrally located or being the focal point of a situation.

Commentators argue that the omnipresent use of today's elaborate concepts is too rich to rely on sparse observations of vague vignettes deduced from manuscripts dating only a few generations beyond the items point of emic presence.
