Tienvarsien is a constructed language developed for a fictional setting featuring the Tienvar people. It functions as the primary means of everyday communication in their lore and is a central element in worldbuilding projects that include novels, games, and linguistic experiments. The language is typically described as an agglutinative, SOV (subject–object–verb) language with extensive suffixation for tense, mood, aspect, case, number, and evidentiality. Core vocabulary centers on seafaring, astronomy, and governance, with imagined loanwords from neighboring tongues within the fictional world.

Phonology is described as having a modest consonant inventory and five vowel phonemes, with syllable structures generally limited to CV or CVC, and occasional consonant clusters in stressed positions. Stress is often penultimate, though some dialects propose tonal or pitch contrasts for emphasis or meaning.

Writing systems: Tienvarsien is commonly written with a Latin-based alphabet in modern texts, but a historical script known as the Tienvaric script appears in lore and ceremonial inscriptions. Some authors treat the script as extinct, while others envision ongoing revival or partial use in cultural contexts.

Geographic and cultural context: In the fictional world, Tienvar is an archipelago with a maritime culture. The language reflects this through a rich inventory of directional terms, terms for weather and winds, and specialized navigation vocabulary used by sailors and explorers.

Current status: In published works, there are efforts to standardize a modern form of Tienvarsien for education and media within the fictional community. Various dialects are described, with ongoing discussions about normative grammar and orthography, as well as debates on how closely to align with historical lore versus contemporary usage.
