Thurrock

Thurrock is a local government district and borough in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. It is located in the Thames Gateway area, to the east of London. The administrative centre of Thurrock is Grays.

The borough was formed on 1 April 1998, when the unitary authority of Thurrock was created from the former Thurrock district. It has a population of approximately 170,000 people. Thurrock is a diverse area with a mix of urban and rural landscapes. Key towns within the borough include Grays, Tilbury, Corringham, and Stanford-le-Hope.

Historically, Thurrock has been an important industrial and port area. The River Thames forms its southern boundary, and significant port facilities are located in Tilbury. Industries have included manufacturing, chemicals, and logistics.

Geographically, Thurrock is characterized by its proximity to the Thames estuary and its relatively flat terrain. The area is well-connected by road and rail, with the M25 motorway and several railway lines serving the borough, providing good access to London and the wider South East of England.
