Threewheeled refers to anything with three wheels, including pedal-powered cycles, mobility aids, and motorized vehicles. The term covers a broad range of designs used for recreation, everyday transportation, and light commercial use.

Configurations and handling: Three-wheeled designs typically employ either a tadpole layout (two wheels at the front and one at the rear) or a delta layout (one wheel at the front and two at the rear). These arrangements influence stability, steering effort, and rollover risk. Tricycles intended for children or mobility assistance often use a two-front-wheel setup for added lateral stability, while many motorized three-wheelers seek speed or payload with a rear-wheel drive at the back.

Applications: Pedal tricycles are common for children, older adults, and people with mobility needs. Cargo and commuter trikes provide urban transport with lower width and improved maneuverability in congested streets. In the motorized sector, three-wheeled vehicles include microcars, trikes, and electric rickshaws. Licensing and regulation vary widely by country; some jurisdictions treat three-wheeled vehicles as motorcycles, others as cars, with corresponding differences in safety standards, insurance, and taxes.

History and examples: Threewheeled designs have appeared since the early days of motoring and cycling. Notable examples include the Morgan 3 Wheeler in its modern revival and traditional three-wheeled microcars used in postwar Europe, as well as widely used urban auto rickshaws and similar vehicles in Asia and Africa.

Advantages and limitations: The smaller footprint and lower cost of threewheeled vehicles can be attractive in tight urban spaces, but stability during cornering and load limits can be challenging compared with four-wheeled vehicles.
