Thiocarboxylic

Thiocarboxylic refers to a class of organic compounds that contain a thiocarbonyl group where the sulfur atom has replaced the oxygen atom of a carbonyl group. The general formula for a thiocarboxylic acid is R-C(=S)OH, and for a thiocarboxylic acid derivative, it is R-C(=S)X, where X is a halogen, OR', SR', or NR'R''. Thiocarboxylic acids are analogous to carboxylic acids but with sulfur in place of oxygen. They are generally less stable and more reactive than their oxygen counterparts.

The thiocarbonyl group (C=S) is a key functional group in these molecules. The C=S bond is weaker and longer than the C=O bond, contributing to the increased reactivity of thiocarboxylic compounds.
