thioanhydrides
Thioanhydrides are a class of chemical compounds characterized by the functional group R-C(S)S-R', where R and R' are organic substituents. They can be considered the sulfur analogs of anhydrides of carboxylic acids, where oxygen atoms are replaced by sulfur atoms. This means a thioanhydride can be formally thought of as derived from two molecules of a thioacid (RCSOH) by the elimination of a molecule of water. Alternatively, they can be viewed as having a central sulfur atom bridging two carbonyl groups that have been sulfurized.
The nomenclature for these compounds can sometimes be confusing. They are often referred to as dithioesters
Thioanhydrides exhibit a range of chemical properties influenced by the presence of the two C=S bonds and
