Theseväljapaiskumisi, also known as solar flares, are sudden, intense bursts of electromagnetic radiation emanating from the Sun. They are caused by the release of magnetic energy that has been stored in the Sun's atmosphere. These flares can release vast amounts of energy across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves to X-rays and gamma rays.

The most visible manifestation of a solar flare is often the sudden brightening of a small region on the Sun's surface. This brightening can last from minutes to hours. These events are frequently associated with other solar phenomena, such as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which are massive expulsions of plasma and magnetic field from the Sun's corona.

Solar flares are classified based on their X-ray intensity, with classes A, B, C, M, and X representing increasing levels of energy. Class X flares are the most powerful. While they are a natural part of the Sun's activity cycle, powerful flares can have significant impacts on Earth. These impacts can include disruptions to radio communications, satellite operations, and power grids. The charged particles released during flares can also pose a radiation hazard to astronauts and aircraft passengers. Scientists monitor solar activity closely to predict and mitigate the effects of these events.
