Thematicization
Thematicization refers to the process of marking a constituent as the theme or topic of a clause or larger discourse. In a theme–rheme information structure, the theme provides the frame or point of departure, while the rheme delivers the new or focal information. Thematicization thus shapes how listeners interpret what a sentence is about and what part of the message is given versus new.
