Texian
Texian is a historical demonym for residents of the region of Texas, especially during the era when Texas was under Mexican rule and during the Texas Revolution and the Republic of Texas (1836–1845). The term distinguished its inhabitants from people in other parts of Mexico or the United States. It was used by Anglo-American settlers and by some Tejanos, and appears in contemporary newspapers, letters, and government documents as "Texian" or "Texians." The origin is linked to Texas, which derives from Tejas, the Spanish form of a Native American term used for the region by the Caddo or Hasinai peoples; the English demonym Texian was formed from Texas.
In practice, "Texian" is most closely associated with the pre-statehood period. After Texas joined the United
