Testikkelkreft, also known as testicular cancer, is a type of cancer that develops in the testicles, which are the male reproductive glands. It is the most common cancer in young men aged 15 to 35. While it can occur at any age, it is rare in men over 50. The exact cause of testicular cancer is not fully understood, but certain risk factors have been identified. These include a personal or family history of testicular cancer, an undescended testicle (cryptorchidism), and certain genetic conditions.

The most common symptom of testicular cancer is a lump or swelling in either testicle. Other symptoms may include a dull ache in the groin or lower abdomen, a sudden collection of fluid in the scrotum, or pain or discomfort in a testicle or the scrotum. In some cases, men may experience breast enlargement or tenderness. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment. If any of these symptoms are present, it is important to consult a doctor promptly.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, an ultrasound of the scrotum, and blood tests to detect tumor markers. If cancer is suspected, surgery to remove the affected testicle (orchiectomy) is usually performed. Further treatment may include chemotherapy or radiation therapy, depending on the type and stage of the cancer. Testicular cancer is highly treatable, with survival rates exceeding 95% for most types when diagnosed early. Regular self-examination of the testicles can help in early detection.
