Terprotonasi is a term used to describe a hypothetical chemical process in which a substrate undergoes triply protonation—acquiring three protons in a controlled sequence or in a concerted transfer. The word combines ter-, meaning three, with protonasi, protonation, and is used primarily in discussions of extreme protonation states in chemistry.

Mechanistically, terprotonasi can proceed via sequential proton transfers through a network of hydrogen bonds or through a single concerted event in a highly acidic environment. Stabilizing factors such as counterions, solvation, and conformational changes are thought to offset electrostatic repulsion among the added protons.
