Termometrem

Termometrem is a device used to measure temperature. It appears in multiple forms and serves a wide range of applications, from medical care and laboratory work to meteorology and industrial processes. In some languages the term corresponds to the common word thermometer, while regional spellings or variations may differ.

Operation and principles vary by design. Traditional liquid-in-glass thermometers rely on the expansion of a liquid (mercury or alcohol) inside a sealed tube. Electronic thermometers use sensors such as thermistors or resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) to convert temperature into an electrical signal. Thermocouples generate a voltage from temperature differences between materials. Infrared thermometers measure emitted radiation to estimate temperature without contact. Modern devices often combine multiple sensing technologies to achieve faster response times and higher accuracy.

Common types include liquid-in-glass, digital electronic, infrared (non-contact), and industrial sensors such as RTDs and thermocouples. Medical thermometers typically prioritize rapid readings and user safety, while industrial sensors emphasize durability and stable calibration over wide temperature ranges. Calibration against fixed points, such as the ice point and the triple point of water, is standard practice to ensure accuracy. Mercury-containing thermometers are being phased out in many contexts due to safety concerns, with alcohol-based and electronic alternatives now widespread.

History ties termometrem to early thermoscopes and the development of standardized temperature scales. Galileo's thermoscopes, followed by Fahrenheit, Celsius, and other scale refinements, laid the groundwork for precise temperature measurement.
