Temporomandibulære
Temporomandibulære refers to anatomical structures associated with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The TMJ is the articulation between the temporal bone of the skull and the mandible, or lower jaw. This joint is crucial for the complex movements of the jaw, including opening and closing the mouth, chewing, and speaking. The TMJ is a synovial joint, meaning it is enclosed in a capsule filled with synovial fluid, which lubricates the joint and allows for smooth movement.
Disorders affecting the temporomandibular joint and its surrounding muscles are collectively known as temporomandibular disorders (TMD).
