Temperatuurmeetblokken, also known as temperature calibration blocks or dry-well calibrators, are essential tools used for the precise calibration of temperature sensors and measuring instruments. They function by providing a highly stable and uniform temperature environment against which a sensor under test can be compared.

These devices typically consist of a block made of a material with excellent thermal conductivity, such as aluminum or brass, which is heated or cooled to a specific, accurately controlled temperature. The block contains one or more precisely drilled holes or wells designed to accommodate the temperature sensor being calibrated. A highly accurate reference thermometer is often inserted into a separate well or is integrated into the device itself to monitor the block's temperature.

The principle of operation is straightforward. The temperature measuring device to be calibrated is inserted into a well in the temperature block. After allowing sufficient time for thermal equilibrium to be reached, the reading from the device under test is compared to the known, stable temperature of the block, as indicated by the reference thermometer. Any deviation indicates an inaccuracy in the device being tested, which can then be adjusted or noted.
