Temizliyor

Temizliyor is a Turkish verb form that marks the present continuous (present progressive) aspect of temizlemek, the verb meaning “to clean.” In ordinary usage it means “he/she/it is cleaning” or, depending on context, “is cleaning” with an understood subject. The subject is usually explicit in the sentence, such as O or another noun.

Morphology and tense: temizlemek is the infinitive form. To form the present continuous in Turkish, the verb stem is combined with the suffix -iyor, producing temizliyor. The person and number are determined by the subject; there is no separate person suffix on -iyor for the third person singular. The stem here becomes temizli- before adding -yor.

Usage: Temizliyor is common in everyday Turkish. Examples include: O odasını temizliyor. (He/she is cleaning his/her room.) Öğretmen sınıfı temizliyor. (The teacher is cleaning the classroom.) If the action is habitual or general, Turkish would typically use temizler (he/she/they clean) rather than temizliyor.
