Telcordia

Telcordia Technologies, commonly known as Telcordia, was a telecommunications software and services company with origins in Bell Communications Research (Bellcore). Bellcore was created in 1984 by the regional Bell operating companies following the breakup of AT&T to coordinate research and development and standards for the U.S. wireline network.

In 1997, Bellcore was renamed Telcordia Technologies. The company specialized in software and services for telecom networks, including OSS/BSS systems, network management, service provisioning, testing and certification, and systems integration for operators and equipment manufacturers worldwide.

Telcordia was also a major contributor to telecommunications standards and testing guidance, publishing a broad catalog of technical documents used by network operators and vendors. Its work encompassed development, validation, and certification of networks and services, as well as life-cycle support for service activation and performance monitoring.

In 2011, Ericsson announced the acquisition of Telcordia Technologies, and the unit was subsequently integrated into Ericsson’s software and services portfolio. The Telcordia brand continued for a period within Ericsson and was used to market certain OSS/BSS and testing products before being increasingly folded into the Ericsson branding.

Telcordia is remembered for its role in shaping telecom software platforms, testing and certification practices, and the development of industry standards used across the telecommunications ecosystem.
