Tekijänoikeusviranomaiset

Tekijänoikeuslaki refers to copyright law in Finland. It protects the exclusive rights of creators over their original works of authorship, such as literary, artistic, and musical compositions. This protection is granted automatically upon the creation of the work, without requiring any formal registration. The rights include the right to reproduce the work, to make it publicly available, and to create derivative works.

The Finnish Copyright Act, primarily codified in the Act on Copyright and Related Rights (Tekijänoikeuslaki), aims to balance the rights of creators with the public interest in accessing and using creative works. It specifies the duration of copyright protection, which generally extends for 70 years after the author's death. Certain exceptions and limitations are also outlined, allowing for the use of copyrighted material for purposes like private study, criticism, and news reporting under specific conditions.

Infringement of copyright can lead to civil and criminal penalties. The law also addresses related rights, which protect performers, producers of phonograms, and broadcasters. Finnish copyright law is largely harmonized with European Union directives, ensuring a consistent level of protection across member states. The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture is responsible for copyright policy and legislative matters.
