Tehohäviöinä

Tehohäviöinä is a Finnish term that translates to "power losses" or "energy losses" in English. It refers to the reduction in useful electrical power or energy that occurs during the transmission, distribution, and use of electricity. These losses are an inherent part of any electrical system and stem from various physical phenomena.

The primary causes of tehohäviöinä include resistive losses, often referred to as Joule heating. When electric current flows through conductors like wires, the material's resistance causes a portion of the electrical energy to be converted into heat. This is described by the formula P = I^2R, where P is power loss, I is current, and R is resistance. Therefore, higher currents and higher resistance lead to greater power losses.

Another significant source of tehohäviöinä is magnetic losses, which occur in the cores of transformers and other inductive components. These losses are associated with the continuous magnetization and demagnetization of the core material as the alternating current changes direction. Core losses are generally divided into hysteresis losses and eddy current losses.
