Taupata
Taupata is a common name used for several species of plants, most notably *Cordyline australis*, a tree endemic to New Zealand. *Cordyline australis* is a monocotyledonous plant, often referred to as the cabbage tree. It is characterized by its long, sword-like leaves that grow in clusters at the ends of its branches, forming a palm-like appearance. These trees can grow to significant heights and are a prominent feature of the New Zealand landscape, often found in open country, coastal areas, and forest margins. Historically, taupata was a vital resource for Māori people, who used its leaves for weaving and its roots for food and medicine. The plant produces fragrant white flowers in dense panicles during spring and summer, followed by small, white berries.
In some regions, "taupata" can also refer to *Sophora* species, particularly *Sophora tetraptera* and *Sophora microphylla*,
