Tasavirtajärjestelmiksi

Tasavirtajärjestelmiksi refers to direct current (DC) electrical systems. In such a system, electric charge flows continuously in one direction. This is in contrast to alternating current (AC) systems, where the direction of current flow reverses periodically.

Direct current is the type of electricity produced by batteries, solar cells, and fuel cells. It is also the form of electricity transmitted through underwater cables, such as those used to connect offshore wind farms to the mainland. Historically, DC was the primary method of electricity distribution, notably championed by Thomas Edison. However, AC systems, developed by Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse, became dominant for long-distance power transmission due to the ease with which AC voltage can be stepped up or down using transformers.

Despite the prevalence of AC in public grids, DC systems remain vital in many applications. They are fundamental to the operation of most electronic devices, including computers, smartphones, and televisions, which all use internal DC power supplies. High-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission is also employed for specific scenarios, such as transmitting large amounts of power over very long distances or when interconnecting asynchronous AC grids. The ongoing development of energy storage technologies, like batteries, further solidifies the importance of DC systems in modern electrical infrastructure.
