Tareth is a fictional coastal city-state in the northern archipelago of the fantasy realm of Eldoria. It sits at the mouth of the Serene and Brine rivers and the sheltered Bay of Nareth, where prevailing trade winds support maritime commerce. The city experiences a temperate, maritime climate with a long sailing season.

Founded in the early medieval era by seafaring clans, Tareth grew into a trading hub for spices, timber, and textiles. It developed a mercantile oligarchy that governs through the Council of Merchants, with a governor chosen for five-year terms. The legal framework is enshrined in the Charter of Trade, which regulates monopolies and ensures safe passage for caravans and ships.

Its economy centers on shipping, shipbuilding, financing, and markets that connect producers with buyers from across Eldoria. The port hosts a diverse population, including Tarene fishers, Ardent traders, and Ori artisans, who speak Tarethian and Common Trade. The city’s infrastructure supports a thriving commercial culture, including warehouses, guild halls, and harbor facilities.

Culturally, Tareth is known for its bazaars, nautical lore, and festivals such as the Tidefall and the Festival of Lanterns. Religious practice is syncretic, blending sea worship with ancestral rites. The architectural style combines coral-stone structures with timber and white plaster, and prominent landmarks include the Hall of Masts, the Sea Gate, and the Library Quarter.
