Tankomyllyjä

Tankomyllyjä is a Finnish term that translates to "rod mill" in English. It refers to a type of grinding mill used in the mining and mineral processing industries. Unlike ball mills, which use a tumbling action of balls to grind material, rod mills employ a charge of long steel rods. These rods cascade and tumble as the mill rotates, creating a grinding action through impact and attrition.

Rod mills are typically used for coarse grinding applications, often as a primary grinding stage. They are effective in reducing the size of ores and other hard materials to a more manageable state for subsequent processing. The length of the rods is usually greater than the diameter of the mill, and they are loaded into the mill to occupy a significant portion of its volume. The feed material enters one end of the rotating cylindrical shell and discharges from the other.

The primary advantage of a rod mill is its ability to produce a relatively coarser product with less production of very fine particles compared to ball mills. This can be beneficial in certain metallurgical processes where excessive fines might cause issues. The selection between a rod mill and a ball mill depends on the specific ore characteristics, desired product size, and overall process design.
