Talajképződés, also known as soil formation, is the complex process by which parent material transforms into soil. This transformation is driven by several key factors: climate, parent material, organisms, topography, and time. Climate influences the rate and type of weathering, as well as the amount of organic matter accumulation. Temperature and precipitation patterns dictate the chemical and physical processes occurring within the developing soil profile. The parent material, which can be bedrock, glacial till, or other geological deposits, provides the initial mineral components and influences the soil's texture and chemical properties.

Living organisms, including plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms, play a crucial role in soil formation. Plant roots break down parent material, and upon their death, their organic matter decomposes, enriching the soil. Earthworms and other soil fauna contribute to mixing and aeration. Topography, or the shape of the land, affects drainage, erosion, and the depth of soil development. Slopes may experience thinner soils due to erosion, while depressions can accumulate deeper profiles. Finally, time is a fundamental element, allowing these processes to gradually alter the parent material into distinct soil horizons. Over long periods, these interacting factors lead to the development of mature soils with characteristic layers.
