Tailmount

Tailmount refers to a type of bicycle component mounting system. Specifically, it describes the way a rear bicycle rack or fender is attached to the frame of the bicycle. In a tailmount system, the rack or fender is secured to the rear dropout, which is the part of the frame where the rear wheel axle is inserted. This is in contrast to some other mounting methods that might use braze-ons or clamps at different points on the frame.

Tailmounting is a common and traditional method for attaching accessories to the rear of a bicycle. Racks attached via tailmount are generally considered stable and capable of carrying significant weight. Similarly, fenders mounted this way are effectively positioned to protect the rider from spray from the rear wheel.
