Tagasi

Tagasi is an Estonian word that functions as an adverb and directional particle meaning “back” or “to the previous place or state.” It is used to indicate movement toward the origin or a return to a former condition and occurs in everyday speech, writing, and instructions.

In practical use, tagasi describes direction or reversal. For example, ta läks tagasi can mean “he went back,” and mine tagasi can be used to tell someone to “go back.” It can also appear in phrases denoting returning home or returning to a prior situation, such as tagasitulemine (the act of returning) or tagasipöördumine (the act of turning back). In many contexts, tagasi helps convey completion of a return action or a return to a starting point.

In modern usage, tagasi is commonly seen on user interfaces as the label for a “Back” button, guiding users to the previous screen or page in software and websites.
