Taean

Taean is a coastal county (gun) in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Located on the western coast along the Yellow Sea, it borders the sea to the west and is surrounded by other Chungcheong counties to the north and inland areas to the east. The county seat is Taean-eup. The district is divided into several municipalities, including towns and rural townships, and it encompasses mainland coast as well as offshore islands such as Anmyeon-do.

Geography and environment

Taean features a long coastline marked by sandy beaches, tidal flats, and marshy wetlands. It includes sections of the Taean Coast National Park, a protected area established to conserve coastal ecosystems, migratory birds, and diverse habitats. The Taean Coast National Park protects coastal ecosystems and offers hiking and birdwatching opportunities.

Transportation

Taean is connected by national highways and regional roads to larger cities, with intercity bus services linking it to Seoul and other regional centers. The area is accessible by road from the metropolitan area and nearby coastal cities.
