Ta-Nehisi Coates is an American writer and journalist. He is best known for his work exploring African-American history, identity, and the enduring impact of racism in the United States. His writing often delves into the systemic nature of racial inequality and its historical roots.

Coates gained significant recognition for his book "Between the World and Me," published in 2015. This work, written as a letter to his teenage son, examines the realities of being Black in America and the concept of the "Dream" that often obscures the lived experiences of Black people. It won the National Book Award for Nonfiction.

Before "Between the World and Me," Coates published "The Beautiful Struggle," a memoir about his youth in Baltimore. He has also written extensively for The Atlantic, where he served as a senior editor, and his reporting has been featured in numerous other publications. His essays often blend personal narrative with historical analysis and social commentary.

In addition to his non-fiction work, Coates has written for Marvel Comics, taking over the writing of the Black Panther series. His tenure on the comic brought renewed critical attention to the character and his mythology. He has also written the Captain America comics for Marvel.
