TVOntario

TVOntario, commonly known as TVO or TVOntario, is a publicly funded English-language educational media organization serving Ontario, Canada. Its mandate centers on providing high-quality educational content and resources to learners of all ages, with an emphasis on engaging, accessible programming and digital platforms.

Founded in 1956 as the Ontario Educational Communications Authority, the organization has undergone branding changes over the years, moving from OECA to Ontario Educational Television Authority and finally to TVOntario, with the TVO brand used for broader educational media offerings. It operates across multiple channels and platforms to reach students, teachers, and the general public.

TVO’s services include the TVO television channel, TVOKids for children’s programming, the digital platform TVO.org for on-demand video and learning resources, and the Independent Learning Centre (ILC), which provides distance education for high school students. Its programming spans documentaries, current affairs, science and history programs, and children’s content, with The Agenda with Steve Paikin serving as a flagship current affairs program.
